Nervous System Imbalance

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

According to Google, Carpal tunnel syndrome is a common condition that causes numbness, tingling, and pain in the hand and forearm.

The condition occurs when one of the major nerves to the hand — the median nerve — is squeezed or compressed as it travels through the wrist. In most patients, carpal tunnel syndrome gets worse over time.

Tingling sensation so-called paresthesia and numbness people feel in the palm and fingers is one of the most common complaints we hear in clinic. Some of these people have already gone through surgical procedure some time in the past but still suffer the numbness, pain or parasthesia as they felt before the operation. Other people are already passed the stage of nerve conduction test for the carpal tunnel, were diagnosed with the carpal tunnel syndrome and advised to have a surgery, yet feel not in hurry to have surgery, especially one which has no guaranty to eliminate their suffering for good.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Cause according to Western Medicine

Carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by pressure on the median nerve. The median nerve runs from the forearm through a passageway in the wrist (carpal tunnel) to the hand. It provides sensation to the palm side of the thumb and fingers, except the little finger. It also provides nerve signals to move the muscles around the base of the thumb (motor function).

Anything that squeezes or irritates the median nerve in the carpal tunnel space may lead to carpal tunnel syndrome. A wrist fracture can narrow the carpal tunnel and irritate the nerve, as can the swelling and inflammation caused by rheumatoid arthritis.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Cause according to our clinical experience

Diagnosing each patient complaining about tingling sensation, pain or numbness in a hand and fingers we often find that nonetheless doctor said that the patient has carpal tunnel syndrome it is not always the true diagnosis. First of all, the nerve can be trapped on its way starting from the spinal column where its roots originated, following through shoulder and scapula area, then passing to the front shoulder, clavicle and then finally moving down along the arm to the fingers.

Our scope of practice is capable to identify where the nerve is actually pinched. And in majority of cases, it’s trapped between muscles much higher than carpal tunnel covered by a strong ligament – the transverse carpal ligament so-called the flexor retinaculum is located.

Due to the true cause for all the symptoms mentioned above is not only the carpal tunnel syndrome, we often suggest our patients to try acupuncture first before making decision to have surgery. We must say, there was no one patient we treated who would do the carpal tunnel surgery after acupuncture treatments we performed.

Acupuncture Treatment for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

The treatment therapy our patients receive for pain, numbness or tingling sensation in forarm, palm and fingers is always based on a thorow diagnosis of the overall health condition and condition of the the problematic arm. We address the main bodily health state and simultaneously treating the main complaint to speed up the recovery process and minimize the number of the clinic visits.

As a matter of fact, in the majority of cases people seek acupuncture help after a long while of trying other healing modalities and by the time they knock in oiur door they already have chronic condition. In this case one should be patient, because nothing can be eliminated over night. But it is worth of haivng a few consecutive, consistent treatments at least once a week to be freed from constant suffering.

This is neurological problem that’s why our advice is to stay positive, patient and avoid the stressful situations. We heal the nervous system – the Central Nervous System and the local NS, so one rather should coperate.

Clinical Relevance

In order to achieve success during the carpal tunnel treatment you should cooperate with the practitioner. The best way to do this you can learn about your mind and become aware that each organ in human body relate and reflect individual emotion. You should read pages 15-49, and especially page 64 – 69 about how to stop ignoring yourself in my book, Your MindBody Alliance & The Truth About Acupuncture.

Our clinical experience shows that people who are not educated in anatomy and physiology are not aware of how to preserve their health. The lack of knowledge and understanding how mind and body correlate leads people to feel out of control over their own health. Reading this book everyone becomes knowledgeable enough to withstand any body health problem and preserve one’s health.
